William M. Meikle, age 89, died August 12, 2022 at Otterbein, St. Marys.
He was born July 13, 1933, to the late William and Martha (Bohlender) Meikle. He married Mary Luth in 1966 who proceeded him in death in 1996.
Surviving is his sister, Marry Ellen St. John (Lee). Also surviving are his two daughters, Beth Warren (Oden) and Martha Meikle and grandchildren Fletcher, Luther and Miriam. Also grandsons Jai Hanuman and Zephyr Pyles-Meikle.
Deceased is a son-in-law Zochae Pyles.
He married Pat Bruns in 1998. Surviving are her children Michael Bruns (Cheryl), Leslie Quinn, and Tracy Gover (James). Step grandchildren are Aaron Bruns (Lissa), Ella Gover, Casey Scott (Athena), and great grandchildren Marla and Racer Scott.
Also deceased are Parker and Margaret Snyder who served as guardians and surrogate parents and greatly influenced his education and his life.
He graduated from Celina High School and the University of Michigan and received a law degree in 1959. After two years of Judge Advocate training during law school, correspondence courses, and Summer camp, he was honorably discharged from the Army Reserve Armor with the rank of Captain. He served as assistant prosecuting attorney for 15 years and prosecuting attorney for another two years. He practiced law for over 50 years with his later years with partner Tom Luth and James Tesno. He was a life member of the Ohio State Bar Association and the Ohio Bar Foundation.
He was one of the founders of the Mercer County Civic Foundation ad actively involved for 35 years. He was also instrumental in the creation of the Mercer County Health Care Foundation. He was a founding member of the Western Ohio Education Foundation (WOEF Board) acting as secretary for many years. He was recognized for his many civic contributions in 1997 when he was named Mercer County Citizen of the year. Among his many interests were computers, ham radio, sailing, fishing, photography, Western square dancing and was life member of Mercer County Sportsmen Association.
A gathering of family and friends will take place on Tuesday, August 16, 2022 from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm at Cisco Funeral Home in Celina.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 am on Wednesday, August 17, 2022 at the Immaculate Conception Church in Celina with Fr. Rob Muhlenkamp officiating.
The family will receive friends from 9:00 am - 10:00 am at the funeral home Wednesday morning.
