Sterling M. Oswalt, age 62 of Brookville, OH, passed away on June 22, 2019 at Brookhaven Retirement Community in Brookville, OH. He was born June 28, 1956 in Columbus, OH.
Survivors include a son, Dan (Meghan) Oswalt, Pittsburgh, PA; a daughter Katie Oswalt, Portland, OR; his father, Dr. Merlin Oswalt; two sisters, Coral (Derek) Small, West Chester, OH, and Dr. Crystal (Garrett) Oswalt Pontious, St. Marys OH; a nephew, Ben Small, Beavercreek OH; and two grandchildren, Noel and Micah.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Winona Evans (Oswalt).
Sterling was a 1974 graduate from Twin Valley South High School, West Alexandria, OH, and The Ohio State University, where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business in 1984. He retired from GM in Moraine, OH after 28 years of service. He was a member of the General Motors UAW.
After retirement, he enjoyed volunteering at Good Samaritan Hospital, riding his bicycle around Brookville, and catching all the Reds and Ohio State games on TV. Many friends and family will remember Sterling's friendly competitive spirit while playing card and board games, when he was always happy and in his element. He was a proud Christian who shared his warmth and laughter generously. He will be missed.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, June 28, 2019, at Elm Grove Cemetery in St. Marys, with Rev. Bev Hurlburt officiating. A Celebration-of-Life service will be held at 3:00 in the chapel of the Brookhaven Retirement Community, One Country Lane, Brookville, OH.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to American Diabetes Association.
