Ronald “Ron” L. Hammons, age 79, of Celina, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on November 28, 1944, in San Antonio, Texas, Ron was the beloved son of the late Charles and Betty (Meyers) Hammons. He is survived by his devoted children, Ronald (Donna) Hammons, Jr. and Rhonda Hammons, both of Wichita Falls, Texas; Jennifer Hammons Henkle and Christopher (Andrea) Hammons, both of Celina, Ohio. Also surviving are his sister, Linda (Jerry) Marvin of Sidney, Ohio; 16 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, and his life partner of many years, Connie Gray, who passed away on January 3, 2024.

A proud graduate of St. Marys Memorial High School’s Class of 1962, Ron went on to earn an Associate’s Degree from Wright State University–Lake Campus in Celina. He served honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War era, stationed in Germany. His service was recognized with several decorations, including the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and a Sharpshooter commendation.

Ron led a multifaceted career, beginning at Mersman Furniture Company in Celina and later working in purchasing at Van Wert Hospital. He transitioned to automotive sales at North Shore Auto in Celina and Mosier Motors in Portland, Indiana. Most recently, Ron enjoyed teaching as a driving instructor at Mel’s Driving School in Celina. For many years, he also owned and operated First Class Cruise Company.

A dedicated and active member of his community, Ron served for over 20 years as the 3rd Ward Councilman on Celina City Council. He made significant contributions as Executive Director of the Miss Lake Festival for more than 25 years and was a long-standing member of the Celina Lake Festival Committee. His enthusiasm extended to volunteering with the Mad River Ski Patrol in Bellefontaine, Ohio.

Ron was a proud member of the Mercer County Democratic Party, the Celina Eagles, and the Celina Moose Lodge. He loved playing and listening to music, traveling, and cheering for his favorite NASCAR drivers and the Kansas City Chiefs. An avid collector of classic cars, he also enjoyed fishing and relishing the lake and beach life with his beloved partner, Connie. Ron’s favorite motto, “It is what it is,” embodies the easygoing spirit and resilience that defined his life.
