June 24, 1947 — November 30, 2020

Robert Michael O’Connor, “Mike”, 73, of Celina, Ohio formerly of Cobb Island, Maryland, passed away November 30, 2020, at Celina Manor long-term care facility in Celina, OH.

Born Tuesday, June 24, 1947, in Altoona, Pennsylvania to Donald E. O'Connor and Marie A. Evans. Eldest middle sibling of six children: Ronald J. (Marty), Ann M., James "Pat" P. (Linda), Josie Tweed, and Thomas J. O’Connor. Growing up, was best friends with his Aunt Pinky.

Graduated from DuVal High School, June 1965, in Glendale, MD, where he lettered in choir. After graduation, worked as an electrician’s apprentice with Chipman Electric in Hyattsville, MD.

U.S. Air Force veteran, 1966 - 1970. Mike served in Minot, North Dakota during Vietnam, assigned as an electrician keeping the nuclear missile silos running and ready. Saved the day a few times. Once filed an official report detailing his witness of a UFO. Later interviewed by Peter Jennings in a 2005 documentary entitled "UFOs, Unidentified Flying Objects: Seeing is believing".

Married briefly to Ms. Heather Cartwright, of North Dakota. Worked as an electrician 1970 – 1971.

Married to his second wife, Gloria Jean "Sandi" Wolfe, for 25 years, December 1976 – 2000. Lived in the Maryland suburbs of Oxen Hill (1975-1982), Waldorf (1982-1992), and La Plata (1992-2000) raising two stepsons and two daughters.

"DJ Magic Mike" way before the movie, 1982 – 2015. “Magic” spun records like a pro, and could pack a dance floor: weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, Friday nights at the local hotel bar. He was passionate about orchestrating a great party, and loved to see people laughing and having a good time.

Mike was a stadium usher for the Washington Redskins during the 1981 through 1989 seasons. He enjoyed hunting with the Wolfe family, and fishing with his daughter annually during family vacations on the Outer Banks. And Mike loved working on cars. His first car was a 1963 Ford Fairlane, while the most favorite vehicle he ever owned was his phantom green 1969 Chevelle SS396. Later in life joined a group of Navy Yard buddies and his good friend John Potts on regular pilgrimages to NASCAR races in Charlotte, NC.

In 2001, lived with his good friend Jim King while building a home in Cobb Island, MD. Retired from public service in 2003, after more than 32 years as a contract specialist with the Washington Navy Yard in Washington, D.C. Enjoyed retirement on his boat navigating the Potomac River, fishing, and living the Island life.

In 2017, Mike moved to Kentucky to be closer to his grandchildren, and suffered a rapid decline in health, being overtaken by a mix of Wernicke-Korsakof Syndrome and dementia. He settled in 2018 at a long-term care facility in Mercer Co., OH. During the final stages of his decline, contracted COVID-19. Lovingly cared for by Celina Manor Staff and State of the Heart Hospice.

In addition to his parents, preceded in death by his brothers Ronald J. O’Connor and Thomas J. O’Connor.
