The Reverend Raymond Samuel Daniel Jr., age 83, joined the Lord on November 13, 2017 at his home in New Bremen with his loving family by his side. He was born in Dayton Ohio to the late Reverend Raymond Samuel Daniel Sr. and Rose Aritta (Williams) Daniel on October 23, 1934. Affectionately known by those he served as “Pastor Ray”, he followed in the footsteps of his grandfather Rev. Eathen Allen (Flossie Guthrey) Daniel, and his father.
On July 4, 1954 he married his high school sweetheart, Phidela Ann (Lehman) Daniel, who survives him in New Bremen, Ohio.
Pastor Ray graduated from Haviland-Scott in 1952, attended Bluffton College, and graduated from the Methodist Course of Study at Garrett Seminary. He was ordained a Deacon by Bishop Hazen Werner in 1962 and an Elder by Bishop Francis Ensley in 1965. In 1968 he became an Associate Member of the Ohio Annual Conference. During his ministry he pastured at: Foraker, the Greater Hardin Circuit, Port Jefferson-Maplewood Circuit, Perry Township Circuit, Marseilles Circuit, Rawson New Hope, Countryside Chapel, Sidney Memorial and Rockford Grace. He retired in 1997 and went on to serve 16 years in retirement at Kossuth Zion United Methodist Church where he was named Pastor Emeritus in 2015.
Pastor Ray is survived not only by his wife, but also their four children: Jacqueline (Jerry) Fagan, LaRue, Ohio, Timothy Daniel, Columbus, Ohio, Barbara (Dean) Bader, Painesville, Ohio, and Brenda (Kenny) Barnes, Kettlersville, Ohio; Grandchildren: Jason (Hannah) Fagan, Jewel (Shane) Berger, Jacob (Kassi) Fagan, Jordan Fagan, Trace (Ali) Daniel, Gage Daniel, Kyler (Erin) Daniel, Ashlinn (Joel) Naseman, Anthony Kipp, and step Granddaughters’ Ashtin Barnes and Taylor Marshall. Also surviving are 10 Great-Grandchildren: Samantha, Jenna, Peyton, Zander, Tinsley, Lilly, Harper, Lucy, Eli, and Coleman as well as Pastor Ray’s only brother Frederick (Norma) Daniel.
Pastor Ray and his family would like to thank the nurses at St. Rita’s Hospital and Hospice for their special care they provided him over the past 5 weeks.
Visitation hours will be from 2:00-4:00 pm and 6:00-8:00 pm, Thursday, November 16, 2017 in Cisco Funeral Home, St. Marys, Ohio.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, November 17, 2017 at Cisco Funeral Home in St. Marys. The family will receive friends and relatives one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery, St. Marys, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you please donate to your local United Methodist Church.
