Luke J Ruane, III, age 71 of Montezuma, Ohio died on Friday, October 15, 2021. He was born January 17, 1950 to Marie Bradley Ruane and Luke J Ruane, Jr in Pittsburgh, PA.
Survivors include sons, Luke (Amy) Ruane IV, St. Marys, OH; Thomas (Travis Whited) Ruane, West Jefferson, OH; and Bill (Nan) Ruane, St. Marys, OH. He is survived by five grandchildren: LJ, Elise, Noelle, Trent, and Gia Ruane. Other survivors include a sister, Marie Lee, Geneva, IL, a brother Thomas Ruane, Monroeville, PA; and a nephew and two nieces, John, Jenny and Elizbeth and their families.
Luke graduated from Central Catholic High School, Pittsburgh, PA and attended DePauw University, Greencastle, IN where he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta. During his time at DePauw he studied in Athens, Greece and Malta in the school’s Mediterranean Study Abroad. At graduation he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Air Force and stationed in Columbus, MS for pilot’s training.
After his discharge he came to St. Marys, OH and became a general manager for Electricon Corporation. During this time, he was active in Kiwanis and the Chamber of Commerce. He was instrumental in the building of the covered bridge in Memorial Park.
Luke had a deep love for his sons and grandchildren, and he particularly enjoyed watching them play in sports. He was an avid fan of the St. Marys Roughriders, along with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates.
He loved living on Grand Lake St. Marys, where he enjoyed boating, waterskiing, snowmobiling, camping, and socializing with his numerous friends and family around the neighborhood. He was a member of the Grand Lake Recreation Club formerly known as Grand Lake Snow Dreamers and he enjoyed model trains, shooting and woodworking.
A gathering of family and friends will take place at Cisco Funeral Home in St. Marys on October 21, 2021 from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm.
Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 am on October 22, 2021 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in St. Marys with Fr. Alexander Witt officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am – 10:45 am at the funeral home Friday morning.
Interment at Gethsemane Cemetery in St. Marys will immediately follow the Memorial Mass; with military honors by the St. Marys VFW Post 9289 and the American Legion Post 323.
