Lucile J. Elam, 101, died July 10, 2015, after a short illness while at the Ohio Masonic Home, Springfield, Ohio.
She was born January 21, 1914, in Madison County, Indiana, to Charles R. and Hazel (Dunlap) Johnson. On April 11, 1941, she married Arthur Lawrence Elam, who preceded her in death on September 23, 1971.
Surviving are two sons and their wives: Rev. Dr. Dean A. and Kay M. Elam of Springfield, Ohio; Dr. Neil A. and Sheila Elam of Columbus, Ohio; three daughters and their husbands: Judith S. and Lawrence T. Riesser of Tipp City, Ohio; Joyce M. and Melvin W. Tindall of Greenfield, Indiana; Jill R. and Arthur C. Schaumloeffel of Eglon, West Virginia; 13 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren. Lucile was the oldest of thirteen children, eight brothers and four sisters all retired teachers. One sister and six brothers preceded her in death.
Mrs. Elam graduated from Summitville High School and Ball State Teachers College, Muncie, Indiana, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. She is a member of Bethany United Methodist Church, Celina, Ohio; Delta Kappa Gamma International Group of Teachers; Alpha Delta Kappa Society; Mercer County Retired Teachers. She retired from the Celina Public School system after teaching fifth grade many years at the East Elementary School. Past member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Celina.
Funeral services will begin at 3 P.M., Sunday, July 19, 2015 in Cisco Funeral Home, Celina, with Rev. Jon Exman and Rev. Dean A. Elam officiating; where the family will receive friends from 1 – 3 P.M. prior to the service at the funeral home.
Burial will follow at North Grove Cemetery, Celina, OH.
In lieu of flowers the family request any donation be made to East Elementary School, Celina, for a special project.
