Joe F. Freed, age 93, formerly of Findlay, Ohio, passed away at Otterbein Retirement Community, St. Marys, Ohio, on Wednesday, March 2, 2016. He was born March 3, 1922, in Forest, Ohio, to Franklin E. and Estella (Neiswander) Freed. On December 5, 1943, he married his high school sweetheart, Kathryn (Heininger) Freed, and they had 71 years together. She preceded him in death on January 25, 2015.
He is survived by his four children: Margaret (Dwight) Steen, Denver, Colorado; Dr. Thomas Freed, Grafton, Wisconsin; Dr. Donald (Debra) Freed, Suttons Bay, Michigan; and Rebecca (Douglas) Warren, Findlay, Ohio; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Una R. (Charles) Bailey, and his brother, Charles Freed.
Joe was a 1940 graduate of Forest High School in Forest, Ohio. He served his country in the United States Army during WWII. He received his pharmacy degree from The Ohio State University in 1951. Joe was a partner in B & G, Arlington and Brookside Pharmacies. He was Retail Pharmacist of the Year for the state of Ohio in 1975, a member of the OSU College of Pharmacy Alumni Governing Board, and past president of the Northwest Ohio Pharmaceutical Association. In addition, he was a member for Van Buren School District Board for twelve years.
He enjoyed participating in the Senate Club and was a Mason at Forest Lodge for seventy years.
He was an active member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church in Findlay. He was also actively involved in the Emmaus community. He was most recently a member of St. Pauls United Methodist Church in Celina. Joe was on the board of directors of Otterbein Retirement Community and an active volunteer on the Otterbein campus.
Joe was a kind, generous and patient man, devoted to his family, church and community. He will be sorely missed.

Memorial services will begin at 11:00 am on Thursday, June 25, 2016 in St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church, 120 W. Sandusky Street, Findlay, Ohio; where the family will receive friend from 10:00 – 11:00 am prior to the service.
Graveside service will held at 3:00 pm at Hueston Cemetery, 17279 County Rd 20, Forest, Ohio.
