Harry E Byers Sr.

Harry E. Byers, Jr., age 89, of Celina, Ohio, passed away at 1:30pm on Monday, October 6, 2014 at Celina Manor Nursing Home. He was born on December 27, 1924 in E. Liverpool, Ohio to the late Harry Edward Byers Sr. & Ellen Mae Perrine Devine. On July 13, 1946 he married June M. Tumblin who survives in Celina, Ohio. Also surviving are son: Gregory B. & Paula R. Byers, Celina, Ohio; grandchildren: Teresa I. Byers, Tamara D. & Shawn Hill; great grandchildren: Colin T. Hill & Ryan C. Hill; brothers: David Byers, Illinois; Dan & Martie Byers, Illinois; William Byers; step-sister: Sally & Robert Walker, Illinois; step-sister-in-law: Lois Keisler, Wisconsin; several nieces & nephews. Preceded in death by: step-father: Bernard Devine; step-mother: Martha Leake Byers; brother: Jack Byers and step-brother: Larry Keisler. Harry was a WWII Veteran having served in the US Navy as a Radio Operator. Harry was an Elementary Teacher & Administrator for 27 years having worked as Principal at Columbia School in Mt. Vernon, Ohio. Harry was worked in the Celina Public School Systems at West School and East Muskingum Schools in New Concord, Ohio. He was Lay Minster at New Salem Church in Mendon, Ohio and was a Boy Scout Leader & Trainer for 50 years and been awarded the Silver Beaver & God and Country Award. He was a member of Celina First Presbyterian Church. Services will be held at 10:30am Friday, October 10, 2014 at the Church. Burial will be held at Dresden Cemetery in Dresden, Ohio at 12noon on Saturday, October 11th. Friends may call from 2-4pm & 6-8pm Thursday at Cisco Funeral Home, Celina, Ohio. Memorials may directed to First Presbyterian Church or State of the Heart Hospice.
