Evelyn M. Bechdolt, 89, formerly of Celina, passed away at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys, on November 7, 2015 at 10:35 pm. She was born on March 29, 1926, to August and Lorena (Huelsman) Stelzer, who both preceded her in death. She married Roger E. Bechdolt on April 21, 1951, and he survives at Otterbein Senior Lifestyle Community, St. Marys.
Other survivors include a daughter, Sharon Bechdolt Okonek (John), Glenview, IL; two sisters, Alice Dirksen, Celina, and Kate Hedrick, Coldwater; four brothers, Bob (Eileen) Stelzer, Coldwater, Tom (Pat) Stelzer, Coldwater, Ken Stelzer, Olathe, KS, and Ralph (Nicki) Stelzer, Celina; sister-in-law Bonnie Stelzer, Celina; beloved family, Susan (Tom) Kirk, Celina, Steve (Virginia) Poppe, Maumee, OH, Jessi Poppe, Celina, April (Tom) Payne, Cincinnati, and Amy (Neil) Peacock, Citrus Hts, CA; and many other godsons, goddaughters, nieces and nephews who were very dear to her.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Arnold “Bozo” Stelzer; three brothers-in-law, Al Dirksen, Tom Hedrick and Virgil Poppe; and two sisters-in-law, Judy Stelzer and Mary Louise Poppe.
She was a 1944 graduate of Immaculate Conception High School, Celina, and also a 1947 graduate of Good Samaritan School of Nursing. She worked for many years as a Registered Nurse, primarily in the OB departments at Gibbons and Joint Township District Memorial Hospitals, where she relished caring for newborn babies and their mothers.
Evelyn was a lifelong parishioner of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. She was a member of the Altar Rosary Society as well as the Ladies Auxiliary. She was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, sister and aunt. She loved spending time with family and friends, particularly days spent boating on the lake or playing cards. For many years, Evelyn enjoyed spending winters in Florida in a beautiful spot between the Indian River and the Atlantic Ocean with her friends and beloved husband, Roger.
Visitation hours will be from 4-8 pm on Friday, November 13, 2015, at Cisco Funeral Home, Celina. Mass of Christian burial and the celebration of her life will begin at 10:00 am on Saturday morning in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Celina, with Fr. Kenneth Alt C.PP.S. officiating.
Burial will follow at Swamp College Cemetery.
