Elvin Leon Adkins, Sr., 74, of Mendon, OH, died December 17, 2016 at 1:35 am at his residence in Mendon. He was born April 26, 1942 in Winchester, IN to James L. and Ulla (Duram) Adkins, both preceded him in death. On December 28, 1974 he married Geneva May Cook Adkins and she preceded him in death on February 11, 2000.
He is survived by three sons, James (Mary) Adkins, Versailles, OH, Elvin βLeeβ Adkins, Jr., Rose Hill, OH, and Ted (Stephanie) Adkins, Ansonia, OH; four stepdaughters, Tina (Allen) Uhrick, Mendon, OH, Jeanice Sehleiger, Eaton, OH, Gwen (Steve) Jones, North Carolina, and Theresa Levi, Celina, OH; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Also, preceded in death by two brothers, James and Ed Adkins; and a sister, Patty Ann Adkins.
Elvin graduated from Monmouth High School, Decatur, IN in 1960. He proudly served his country in the United States Army Reserves during the Vietnam era. He worked his entire life as a laborer before retiring in 2000.
He was a member of the Celina VFW Post #210.
Visitation hours will be from 4:00 pm β 7:00 pm, Wednesday, December 21, 2016 in the Cisco Funeral Home, Celina; where a prayer service will be held by the Celina VFW and American Legion Members at 7:00 pm.
Funeral services will begin at 10:30 am on Thursday, December 22, 2016 in the funeral home with Pastor Ron Hoeksema officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:30 am - 10:30 am prior to the service.
Graveside services will follow at Mercer Memory Gardens in Celina; where military honors will be provided by the Celina American Legion Post and Celina VFW Post.
