Ed Goldenetz

March 28, 1945 — January 17, 2021

Ed Goldenetz moved from his home into Heaven Sunday January 17, 2021.

He was born March 28, 1945 to Charles Frederick Goldenetz and Mary Eileen (Mallory) Murr. Both preceded him in death as did his infant brother Rex Allen Goldenetz, older brother Dewey Goldenetz, brother-in-law Robert Bender, and nephew Robert Eugene Bender.

On August 11, 1990, Ed and Lena Marie (Simmons) Goldenetz were married, and she survives at their home in Fremont, Ohio.

Also surviving are children and grandchildren he dearly loved. Ed is survived by daughters Kelly (Chris) Hogan of Upper Arlington, Ohio, Kandi (Brett) Hines of Cynthiana, Kentucky, and Kimberly Stamps of Forest Park, Ohio, and by step-sons Michael (Amy Ralston) Halbisen of East Lansing, Michigan, David Halbisen of Lima, Ohio, and Johnathan Halbisen of Fremont, Ohio. Ed was also the proud grandparent of Marley, Jessica, and Ella Hogan; Aaron and Kara Hines; Brooke Stamps, Taylor (Brandon) Paty, and Justin Stamps; Henry and Olivia Halbisen; Bella Halbisen; and Knox Halbisen. Ed was also blessed with two great-grandchildren Khamari Reynolds and Jacob Paty. Ed is also survived by sisters Claudia Bender and Kendra (Greg) Ferrall, and five nieces and their families.

Ed graduated from Saint Marys Memorial High School in 1963. He played trumpet in the marching band for four years. He proudly served his country in the Army reserve for several years.

During his career, Ed worked at Northmoor Marina and Goodyear Rubber Plant. He then retired after 29 years at Koneta Rubber.

Ed was an active member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Saint Marys, Ohio. He was a deacon, sang in the choir, served on two pastor search committees and various other committees. He had great faith in God, never wavering or doubting. One of his often used phrases was “It will be all right”.

Over the years he enjoyed refinishing furniture and collecting coins. He showed horses and was really a cowboy at heart. He loved gardening and teaching his children and grandchildren to garden, rake leaves, pitch and catch, fish and generally to have fun. His favorite movies were West Side Story, The Sound of Music, and Tombstone. He often entertained his family, making up the words he didn’t know in songs.

Ed was a great St. Marys Roughrider fan and maintained season tickets for at least 25 years. He was a loyal Cleveland Browns Fan, never giving up hope for the elusive Super Bowl win. He looked forward to the football draft each year like a child anticipating Christmas. Ed also was an avid fan of Ohio State Football. There is at least one picture of him with each grandchild in which he is wearing a red Ohio State sweatshirt.
Ed was a kind, gentle, understanding person, with a true servant’s heart and a smile for everyone. He never refused to help whenever he could.
