Agnes V. Schmerge, 60, St. Marys, passed away peacefully at Heritage Manor, Minster, on September 8, 2014 at 6:35 AM. She was born on March 5, 1954, in St. Marys, to Alvin and Dolores (Otting) Schulze, both preceded her in death. She married Jim Schmerge on May 14, 1977, and he survives at the residence.
Survivors include a son, Richard Schulze, St. Marys; a daughter, Amy (Troy) Grillot, New Knoxville; two brothers, Bernard “Benny” and Leonard Schulze, both of St. Marys; two brother-in-laws, Mark (Wendy) Schmerge, Wapakoneta, Ed (Joy) Schmerge, Botkins; a sister-in-law, Karen Schmerge, Sidney; and six grandchildren, Victoria, Olivia, Cooper, Norah, Zebulon and Eva.
She is preceded in death by a brother, William Schulze; a sister, Kathryn Spurlock; a sister-in-law, Janet Schmerge; and a grandson, Lennon.
She was a graduate of St. Marys Memorial. Agnes was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in St. Marys with a strong faith in Christ. She was also a member of Auglaize County Rabbit Breeders, Lima Rabbit Breeders, Van Wert Rabbit Breeders and the National Florida White Rabbit Breeders. She was an advisor the 4H Hare Raisers for 18 years. She was also very active with the Special Olympics.
Agnes was a loving and dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed spending every moment with her family. She also loved spending time in her flower gardens.
Visitation hours will be from 3-7 on Thursday, September 11, 2014. There will be a prayer service at 7:00 pm in the Cisco Funeral Home of St. Marys, located at 1175 E. Greenville Rd. Mass of Christian burial will begin at 11:00 am on Friday in the Holy Rosary Church, St. Marys with Fr. Barry Stechschulte, officiating. Burial will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery, St. Marys.
